ONE STEP CLOSER TO COVID-19 FREE
What an incredible
piece of news it is to be pandemic-free. The pandemic's global devastation
seemed unstoppable, and the long-term effects on children are likely to be felt
for years to come. COVID-19 vaccines were delivered less than a year after the
virus was discovered, a near-miracle that is providing much-needed hope for an
end to the pandemic's acute phase.
COVID-19's overall impact on youngsters have been
disastrous. Education is plainly deteriorating, and the year 2020 will be a
watershed moment for a generation of students. The number of children who
attend the emergency room for mental health issues is on the rise. This is one
of the many reasons why we, as teenagers and children, should get our
vaccinations. One of the most vulnerable phases for major illness is in childhood.
Children have typically been the major recipients of immunizations because this
is the period when protection is most needed. To protect the globe from
COVID-19, everyone, even children, must be vaccinated. We also need immunized
adults, continuing safety measures, the safe reopening of schools, and access
to all recommended vaccines – and, most critically, a rigorous approach to
identifying truly safe COVID-19 vaccines for children – to get back to normal.
What matters is the vaccination's domino effect. If
everyone were immunized, the things that the pandemic changed, such as closing
of establishments, social issues, health issues, and people who lost their
career, are going back to where it should be. Of course, the
pandemic had positive impacts on us, but we could still have these effects
when we would return to normalcy. For those who have not yet been vaccinated, I
understand how frightening it is to be injected with a large needle, but
imagine our world without dread of an unseen enemy. How free and refreshing
could it be? So come and let's make the world COVID-19 free!
